Tips for cleaning and caring for taps

High-quality taps deserve care that protects their material, finish and function in the long term. With the right care instructions, bathroom taps, kitchen taps, shower heads and accessories from heinrichschulte can be cleaned gently and their appearance preserved for years to come. It is essential to use mild cleaning products and soft cloths, and to avoid aggressive, abrasive or acidic products.

heinrichschulte’s care instructions help you to treat surfaces properly, reduce limescale build-up and reliably maintain the functionality of water-carrying products. This ensures that the quality of the fittings is not only visible but also noticeably preserved in daily use. By caring for products correctly, you protect their surfaces, extend their service life and contribute to the responsible use of long-lasting quality.

1. Use the Right Cleaning Agent

For daily cleaning, please use only neutral cleaners and water. To remove stubborn limescale, you can use a cleaner containing citric acid.

2. The right cleaning tools

Rinse the taps with plenty of water and polish them with a soft cotton cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, brushes, scouring pads or microfibre cloths to clean the taps. These can damage and scratch the surface of your taps.

3. Follow the care instructions

Care instructions are included in the packaging of all our heinrichschulte products. We recommend that you keep these and refer to them if in doubt.

4. Prevent limescale build-up

Prevent the build-up of dirt and limescale by cleaning regularly. Thanks to the FlexClean anti-lime nubs, hand showers, overhead showers and taps fitted with Antikalk Clean can usually be cleaned easily with your finger. Simply rub them gently to loosen any limescale build-up.

5. Do not apply the cleaning product directly

Where possible, do not spray the cleaning product directly onto the surface of the fittings. Instead, apply the cleaner to a soft cloth and gently wipe the surface with it. You can then rinse with clean water.

6. Rinse with clean water

Any cleaning product should be rinsed off afterwards with clean – preferably warm – water. It is then advisable to give the surface a light polish with a soft cloth to prevent limescale from forming again.

7. Try gentle alternatives

Light soiling can often be removed using just water and ordinary soap. This gentle cleaning method helps to extend the lifespan of the tap.

8. Don’t forget the aerator

With daily use, taps in the kitchen and bathroom can quickly develop limescale on their surfaces, depending on the water’s limescale content. But the aerator – the mesh filter in the tap’s spout – can also become blocked by limescale deposits. This can cause the tap to splash or drip. For this reason, you should also pay attention to the inner workings when cleaning. If in doubt, a plumber can quickly replace the aerator for you.

9. Cleaning the hand shower and overhead shower

To maintain an attractive spray pattern, simply wipe your hand over the antilime FlexClean nozzles of the hand shower or head shower regularly. This prevents limescale from becoming firmly established.

FAQ

How do I clean or descale my heinrichschulte taps?

Only cleaning products that are specifically intended for this purpose should be used. Do not use abrasive sponges or scouring agents for cleaning. We also advise against using solvent- or acid-based cleaners, limescale removers, household vinegar and cleaning products containing acetic acid. These attack the surface – your tap will become dull and scratched. As the formulations of standard commercial cleaners are frequently changed, we cannot guarantee that they will care for our taps gently. Our recommendation: Clean the tap using only a little soap and a damp cotton cloth. Then simply rinse it off and wipe it dry. You can prevent limescale marks by drying the tap after each use. Damage to the surface or material caused by improper handling is not covered by the warranty.

Can you put a complete shower head or a hand shower in the dishwasher?

No. The parts of our shower range are not designed to withstand the high temperatures of the dishwasher’s dry cycle.

How Do I Clean My heinrichschulte Hand Showers and Head Showers?

heinrichschulte hand showers and head showers should be checked regularly for limescale deposits. These deposits primarily form on and inside the elastomer anti-lime nozzles. Because limescale-resistant materials are used, deposits can be removed simply by wiping them with a sponge, cloth or cleaning cloth. We accept no liability for damage to our hand showers and head showers resulting from failure to follow these instructions.
